Toddler

  • Stages in each classroom facilitate dramatic play and gross-motor development
  • Introduction to Reggio, Emilia and Project Approach philosophy allows children to play an active role in the development of their curriculum, as teachers take verbal and physical cues from toddlers to develop projects and activities that incorporate their interests
  • Teachers create lesson plans based on interests of the children that incorporate emergent literacy, music, art, dramatic play, sensory, motor development, science, nature, and pre-math experiences into the classroom on a weekly basis
  • Children’s work is documented through the use of Portfolios for every child, curriculum journals, classroom voicemail snapshots, project boards, and more
  • Confidence and security is maximized by children being in the same classroom with the same teachers longer before moving into the next program
  • Computers in each classroom provide access to curriculum software, and promote comfort with technology at a very early age
  • Meals are enjoyed family-style at tables, as toddlers and their teachers discuss the work of the day, and plans for the future.  Important socialization as well as opportunities for physical and emotional development occurs by eating in this fashion
  • Respectful classroom environment facilitates trust, self-esteem, autonomy, communication, and teamwork among toddlers and their teachers
  • The learning investigation is more about the process (exploration, experimentation, examination) than it is about the “finished product”
  • Toddlers are treated as individuals with great strengths, whose opinions, actions, and thoughts are respected and valued

  • “We feel the school is first rate. All the teachers we’ve had have been great, and we love the project-oriented learning approach. The Compass School is far better than the rest. We have recommended you many times.” -Mary, Toddler & Preschool Parent
