To Provide an environment that allows learning to grow as much as the child and teachers' imagination allows. Specialty teachers and classrooms offer additional avenues that inspire further discovery. "Real life" materials, room designs that include stages and lofts, and teachers with varied areas of expertise are readily available for the participants to engage in learning more about the world and themselves. The Compass School offers the skills of specialty teachers in the areas of language and culture, art, science, drama and music and construction.

To Support learning as a collaboration. Children and teachers learn with each other. Children of different ages learn from each other. Opportunities are created for children to "mentor" younger children. And parents lead and learn from constant communication with their child, teachers and school directors. Parents can call their child's teacher's voice mail and learn about the day's events and adventures. Teachers maintain a portfolio of each child's work and interests which is shared with child and parent throughout the year, showing what and how the child is learning, and describing themes and interests displayed by the child. Both child and parent are afforded the opportunity to offer input as to the content of the portfolio.

Learning Is a journey. Where a compass gives us a precise reading, it is up to the individual to decide the path taken. The Compass School provides the tools and support for each child to steer through their distinct paths of discovery.
