Learning is a journey we make together. To enable each child to optimally benefit from this journey, the vision of The Compass School includes the following goals:

To Respect each child as an individual. Paths chosen for learning differ with each child, and we respect each child's ability to take risks and try new things. We provide support and respectful encouragement to help children thrive in their discoveries.

To Help children learn by choosing projects. Projects involve research and exploration by various methods to answer questions posed by children, teachers, or both. Projects may continue over days or weeks, depending on the ideas and questions generated. Projects may involve small or large groups. A child may choose to work on one particular project today and may join a group working on a different project tomorrow. Several projects may occur at the same time, each in various stages of discovery, offering each child the opportunity to tap into experiences that are of a particular interest. Individual interests are explored with a group sharing the same interests.
